WELCOME TO MY FANSITE
Although he has release several solo albums, Richard Wright is much better known for being the quiet man sat behind his stack of keyboards for legendary progressive rock band Pink Floyd. Rick was one of the original and longest serving member of the band from its origins in 1965 to his death in 2008.
Rick Wright contributed a great deal to the Pink Floyd sound with his understated an unique style of playing. Though he was inspired by jazz and classical music Ricks early playing centered around whimsical piano and psychedelic Fafisa organ playing in fitting with the London Underground scene at the time on the late 1960's when large percentages of the club going music lovers were taking plenty of LSD.
Later into 1969 and the early 70's Rick expanded his sound with the use of a Hammond Organ, early synthesizers and mellotron on his solo piece for Ummagumma, Sisyphus. His organ and piano playing on Atom Heart Mother and Meddle were very good as they were on Dark Side of the Moon but some of his best playing ever was on the classic 1975 album by Pink Floyd, Wish You Were Here. That elbum represents the Zenith of Wrights musical career. Multi layered synthesizers coupled with Hammond and piano represent a melancholic collage of atmospheric and wistful musical landscapes. After this album Wright,s musical contributions were elbowed out of the way by increasingly vocal lead man Roger Waters. Nevertheless, Wrights synthesir and Hammond organ playing on 1977's Animals were dynamic, metallic and supurb. His contribution to The Wall album was less prolofic and session musicians were brought in to replace Wright on some songs. The yearlier however saw the release of his first Solo album Wet Dream that contained a pleasing mixture of self penned songs and funky instrumentals. The album had that typical injenction of multi layered colour throughout by know typical of Ricks playing. Retrospectivley, that album made up for the dissapointing lack of Rick's keyboards featuring on the Wall Album. by 1983s The Final Cut album he wasn't even in the band and didn't feature at all.
1984 saw an odd release caleed Identity by Zee, a duo he formed with Dave Harris of new romantic band fashion. It was a commercial and artistic failure.
Wright reappeared on Pink Floyd's 1987 comeback album A Momentary lapse of reason but with a host of other session keyboardists. His musical contribution to the band was restored to its full glory on the subsequent tour. On 1990s Division Bell, Rick was back to his best playing superbly and adding his distinctive Hammond and synth sounds to this very successful album and Pulse, the live tour.
In 1996 the release of an other Solo album came with Rick on form again, featuring artists such as sinaed o conner and drummer Manu katche on drums
